SBS’s Friday-Saturday drama Connection has ended on a high note, breaking its own highest viewership ratings record. The drama has been receiving positive reviews for its tense plot and the actors’ passionate performances throughout its run. In this article, we will look at some of the drama’s most memorable scenes that remain in our memories even after the show has ended.
#01. Actor Ji Sung! Giving Goosebumps with Realistic Drug Addiction Acting
Ji Sung, who plays the main character Jang Jae Kyung, renewed his life character with this work. Connection attracted attention from the beginning of the drama with its novel premise that Detective Jang Jae Kyung (Ji Sung), who investigates drugs, is addicted to drugs. Ji Sung realistically expressed the symptoms of drug addiction, from the confusion of the mind to trembling hands and shaking pupils, giving us goosebumps.
The scene where he smiles in joy when the drugs enter his body is also evaluated as a so-called ‘drugged’ act. On the other hand, his suffering from withdrawal symptoms was also impressive. He showed the character’s pain as it was with his bloodshot eyes, unfocused pupils, parched lips, and rough breathing, adding to the immersion.
#02. The ‘reversal’ character who made ‘Connection’ Jang Jae-kyung addicted to drugs
The process of revealing the identity of the person who made Jang Jae-kyung addicted to drugs was also interesting. As it turned out, he was none other than his high school classmate Jeong Sang-ui (Park Geun-rok). Let me briefly explain Jeong Sang-ui. Until the middle of the drama, he had a strong image of being naive, so no one suspected him.
Therefore, Jeong Sang-ui’s real identity was a ‘plot twist’ in itself. By the way, before I go into detail, let’s go over the main story of the drama. Connection is mainly about Jang Jae-kyung uncovering the whole story of the distorted friendship between her high school classmates, triggered by the suspicious death of her friend Park Jun-seo (Yoon Na-mu).
If we look into the story a little more, Jun-seo got involved in a drug business led by his classmates Park Tae-jin (Kwon Yul) and Won Jong-soo (Kim Kyung-nam) to raise money for the treatment of his daughter who had a rare disease before he died. Then, not long after he decided to “turn everything back,” he died under suspicious circumstances. Jae-Kyung is convinced that his death was a murder and actively investigates it. In the process, Jae-kyung follows Jeong-sang, who witnessed the scene on the day Jun-seo died.
Jeong-sang confesses a shocking fact to Jae-kyung, making her angry. He reveals that he was the one who made the drugs and is also addicted to Jang Jae-kyung. He then reveals that he was Jun-seo’s only friend before Jae-kyung showed up, and reveals his obsession with him. In short, he hated Jae-kyung because he thought she stole his friend Jun-seo. He also had a grudge against his classmates Park Tae-jin and Won Jong-soo, who had pressured Jun-seo about drugs while he was alive, and he dragged Detective Jae-kyung into his revenge against them. Jeong Sang-ui then says that he will pay the price after the revenge is complete.
#03. A refreshing ending that brings good to the forefront and brings evil to the forefront!
The process of revealing the truth surrounding Park Jun-seo’s death was tense until the very end. Jeong Sang-ui falsely threatens Park Tae-jin by saying that there is a recording and proposes a meeting. Jang Jae-kyung is also invited to the meeting. In the following scene, Jang Jae-Kyung interrogates Park Tae-jin, saying, “The person who stopped the elevator and got off on the day Jun-seo died, the person who checked the body first and quickly led him to leave, the person who obstructed the autopsy until the end, they are all one person. Park Tae-jin, tell me now. You killed Jun-seo.” Park Tae-jin admits, “Yes, that’s right. I killed him.”
He then sarcastically describes Park Jun-seo’s life as “a worthless life living off of friends.” Jeong Sang-ui gets angry and gets shot in the heat of the moment, killing him. The subsequent developments were also gripping. The DNA of Won Jong-seo’s father, Won Chang-ho (Moon Sung-geun), was found on Jun-seo’s dead fingernails. Jang Jae-kyung, who found this suspicious, goes to Won Chang-ho. She then provokes him and gets a confession from him that he was the one who instigated Jun-seo’s death. In the following scene, Won Chang-ho is arrested on charges of instigating murder. Before this, his son Won Jong-Su was also imprisoned on charges of manufacturing and administering drugs.
In this way, the drama dramatically portrays the tragic ends of the villains and completes a refreshing ending. It is also noteworthy that Jang Jae-Kyung, who had been addicted to drugs, successfully quits drugs through treatment and shows a hopeful side. Since the drama ended with a truly refreshing ‘punishing evil and promoting good’ ending, the satisfaction of the viewers is also said to be high.
