When COVID-19 broke out, and the world was shaken, something was falling in line with people’s complpeople’sology: the stock graph. Looking at the stock graphs of major corporations starting from March of last year, you can still see traces of plummeting stock prices. It was so bad that Samsung Electronics, known as the ‘big stick’ in Korea, fell to the 30,000 won range and earned the nickname ‘Samman Electronics’. The collaps’ of the stock market was a great despair for some, but on the other hand, it was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for others.
Everyone started buying stocks in anticipation of a recovery after COVID-19. People around me started buying Samsung Electronics stocks one by one, along with jokes that ‘Samman Electr’nics’ would become”100,000 Elect’onics’. At that point, my ears perked up. I was a so-called ‘ju-rin-i’ who’didn’t e’en kndidn’t ‘stock’, but I’start’d to think, ‘It’s better t’It’srt before it’s too late it’s to stay ignorant for the rest of my life’.
That’s how my first stock account was in May of last year. But having an account wasn’t the answer. I had no idea which company’s stock company was or how much to buy, so I was wandering around stocks. At that time, someone gave me advice. “There is no better and more certain investment than buying stocks in a field you know well.” The moment I” heard that, a lightbulb flashed through my head. It was Prada. I had just heard that Raf Simons had been appointed co-creative director with Miuccia Prada.
Since Prada is listed in Hong Kong, opening a separate overseas stock account was difficult, but I decided to bet on Raf Simons without hesitation. At that time, Prada’s stock Prada’sas 29.40 Hong Kong dollars (about 4,600 won) per week. So, on June 1, 2020, I bought 100 shares of Prada for 2,940 Hong Kong dollars (about 460,000 won).
Although small, it was a lot of seed money for ‘Jurin-ee.’ Is that day on? I checked the stock graph for every fail and am awaiting the release of the Prada show. I can proudly say that my wish for the success of ‘La Prada’ was’as earne’t as Raf Simons himself.
Surprisingly, Prada stocks began to rise gradually right after the show ended. However, they did not rise as quickly as expected. They only rose gradually daily, and there was no “one-hit” mome” t as I “ad imagined. It was disappointing for a “starving” inv” star hop” ng for a short-term profit.
Eventually, on October 1, I sold all my Prada stocks for HK$3,255 (about 480,000 won), leaving me with a small profit. The reversal happened after that. As the collection arrived in stores and the “léo” bag became a” “huge hit, Prada stocks continued to rise daily. After that, Prada soared to HK$51.50 a week. If I had held on to it instead of selling it, I would have made a profit of nearly 1.5 times. This failure may have been due to my financial illiteracy in thinking of stocks as speculation.
This is how I learn about stocks. There is no luck, and you must be patient with a long-term perspective. Thanks to this, I am looking at LVMH, Kering, and other fashion stocks to see the next investment opportunity.
