The difference between a brand specializing in bags and a fashion brand bag The ultimate function of a bag is to carry and carry belongings before it is an accessory that decorates me. In addition to aesthetic sense, functionality and completeness are important items, and fashion brands often make bags to create a full collection.
If there is a difference between when I first made bags and now, it is that I made something good. At that time, I was obsessed with crocodile leather and made crocodile leather bags for the 0.01% upper class. At that time, I only thought about ‘what I want to do’ and ‘my design’, but now I design while thinking about materials and processes. Furthermore, I have even considered the accessory market and marketing.
I am curious about how you became a bag designer after being active as an actor and singer. I have been interested in fashion since I was in the 4th grade of elementary school, where I saved my allowance and bought clothes at the Banpo underground shopping mall. Even while becoming an actor and working in broadcasting, I designed and made my clothes. Then, I quit broadcasting and studied abroad at Parsons, where I took a class on the importance of the accessory business. I should start from a niche market and expand my scope, which started with bags.
Where do you get ideas for bag design? I get ideas from everything around me in my daily life. Recently, I saw the ‘Inventing Abstraction Year, 1910-1925′ exhibition at MOMA, and many of the works were connected to current trends. I can gain new things when I search for things I like and experience things I want to do. Lim Sang-ah’s strengths as a bag designer are that I am not someone who emphasizes only my sense and artistic aspects, but I also know how to consider the commercial aspect. What is the trendiest bag style this season?
Vivid colors and graphic patterns, such as strong color blocking, are the trends. You can easily pull it off if you match it with a one-tone lighter outfit. If you complete the blank space of ‘Baek is 00’, Baek is like a friend. It contains my daily life and is always by my side.
