Nam Yoon-soo, who became a rising star overnight with his role as delinquent student Ki-tae in the Netflix original Extracurricular, is currently appearing occasionally on KBS 2TV’s Newly Released Convenience Store Restaurant, but it seems like he’s not very active in his work.
As it turns out, he had actually stopped his activities since the beginning of this year in order to donate one of his kidneys to his father. Nam Yoon-soo’s agency, Aciegarten, revealed that he had a kidney transplant surgery for his father at Eunpyeong St. Mary’s Hospital of Catholic University on the 19th of last month. It is said that both Nam Yoon-soo, the donor & his father, the recipient, have quickly recovered and have been discharged from the hospital.
The hospital also released Nam Yoon-soo’s appearance, saying, “Actor Nam Yoon-soo always showed a confident attitude from the process of preparing for the transplant surgery to the moment he was discharged after the surgery & recovered. I think his bright smile and kind heart that thought deeply about his family brought about today’s good result.”
When this good story became known, Nam Yoon-soo said, “I thought of it as something I had to do naturally, but I’m glad that I was able to give my father good days as time passed,” & expressed his gratitude to his fans and hospital staff. He added, “In the future, I will become a person who can easily extend a hand when faced with things that make me hesitant.”
Nam Yoon-soo has previously shown his extreme love for his family on entertainment programs such as Newly Released Convenience Store Restaurant and MBC’s I Live Alone. He even shed tears during a phone call because of his deep affection for his grandmother. Nam Yoon-soo, who is said to have recovered quickly thanks to his deep filial piety, is about to release the drama Lovestruck in the City, which he filmed just before his hiatus.
